The Hardest Part of Her Birthday

Happy Spring Equinox!

My daughter turned 15 yesterday.
And surprisingly…the hardest part wasn’t the cake, the guest list, or even the emotions.

It was her wishlist.

Think: itsy bitsy teeny weeny crop tops and micro skirts. The kind of clothes that make you pause as a parent—not because they’re “wrong,” but because they raise bigger questions.

Just last week, after my talk at Burkes School (“Girl Power: Building Body Resilience”), a mom asked me:

“How do you balance letting girls wear what they want with keeping them safe?”

It’s such a real question.

Because on one hand—yes. Our girls deserve body autonomy, confidence, and self-expression.
And on the other—we live in a world where attention isn’t always safe or welcome.

If we clamp down too hard, we risk secrecy and rebellion (ask my teenage self sneaking outfits in a backpack 🙋‍♀️).
If we say nothing, we miss the chance to guide.

This is the dynamic world of puberty.
Not just changing brains and bodies—but building discernment, communication, trust, and awareness.

And here’s what I’ve learned:

👉 The goal isn’t control.
👉 The goal is body literacy.

When girls understand their bodies, their boundaries, and their worth, they make different choices—not out of fear, but from a grounded sense of self.

That’s exactly why I created our Body Literacy Summer Camp—a space where tweens and teens can learn, ask questions, and build confidence before the stakes get higher.

And while we’re talking about bodies changing…

If you’re a mom reading this, you might be noticing your own shifts lately.

Mood swings. Sleep changes. Brain fog. Shorter patience (especially around crop tops 😅).

Welcome to perimenopause—another season of transformation that no one really prepared us for.

My dear friends (T Dyer and Dr. Kim Garfinkel) are offering a FREE virtual event and I'm excited to check it out.

Here are the details:

In honor of Women’s Month, join us for a free Zoom conversation:

Partners Supporting Peri- & Menopause
🗓 Tuesday, March 24
🕓 4 pm (PDT) / 7 pm (EDT)

Learn more and register here.

Perimenopause doesn’t just impact our bodies—it affects our mood, relationships, and daily life in ways many of us weren’t prepared for.

In this supportive, real-talk session, we’ll explore:
• What’s actually happening hormonally
• Why it can feel so disruptive
• How partners can better understand and support you

Partners are invited too!

Led by a licensed therapist and a menopause-certified physician, this will be an open, judgment-free space with time for your questions.

Two seasons.
Two transitions.
One opportunity to show up with awareness instead of overwhelm.

With gratitude,
Konika

Happy New Moon, My inbox has been full this week with so many amazing moms asking for workshops before everyone heads off on summer adventures. I hear you. This time of year is a big transition for our daughters (and for us), and it’s worth supporting them with the tools they need before everything shifts. I’m offering the four topics moms are requesting the most and a bundle deal (save $50) when you register for both kids workshops. Feel free to email me at here if you have any questions. Go...

Happy Pink Full Moon, Our popular Girl & Grown-Up "Period Power" workshop is back on April 25th as well as our virtual "Pause Power" workshop on April 22nd. There’s something I keep noticing lately, in my students, in my daughter, and honestly… in myself too. Sleep deprivation. Our body literacy classes always begin with a check-in and a chance for students to draw a picture of their "inner weather report" in their journal. One of my students said they noticed a pattern. "I am always tired!"...

Happy Full Moon! This full moon has me reflecting on how powerful it feels to gather — in our treehouse classroom, school libraries, and cozy yoga studios — to talk about the things that truly matter. Last week, I had the honor of leading “Media Mindset: Parenting in the Digital Age” in Argonne Elementary's cozy library. There is something so reassuring about a room full of parents leaning in, asking thoughtful questions, and realizing we’re not alone in navigating this digital world. If...
