My Hospital Stay + NEW Fall Workshops

Happy Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse! šāØ
Did you miss me?
I fully immersed myself in the joy of running an amazing four weeks of Girl Power Science summer camp. On the very last day of camp, my body decided it had had enough. I suddenly felt a sharp, excruciating abdominal pain and ended up in the hospital.
I donāt know what was scarier, the actual pain or the fact that I had no health insurance due to a computer system error. š³ Those of you who follow me on Instagram, @girlpowerscience, know all the details!
I had two ultrasounds. One was transvaginal (not fun), and I asked the radiologist if I had any eggs left and told her about my book, One in a Million. š I do have eggs left, along with an ovarian cyst and two fibroids. Yay, bonus finds!
In the end, they couldnāt figure out what was causing the pain. The whole ordeal took 12 hours, and with each passing hour, I found out that one more of my organs was healthy. My appendix isnāt rupturing, hooray! My kidneys donāt have stones. Gallbladder? Check.
It was a true moment of body literacy and of practicing the āattitude of gratitudeā I love to talk about.
Iām feeling much better now. I suspect it was an abdominal wall strain from taking lots and lots of awkward loads of stuff up to the treehouse all summer. Apparently, my body waited until the very last day of summer camp to say:
Enough is enough! Youāre doing too much. Slow down. Listen to me.
Well, now I have no choice but to rest and move slowly while I recover.
Iām choosing to see it as a message from the universe to slow down.
Tonight is the Blood Moon lunar eclipse. Lunar eclipses have long been connected to transformation, hidden truths, and powerful inner shifts. They illuminate the parts of ourselves that have been waiting to be seen, bringing endings, beginnings, and the raw beauty of change to the surface.
Sometimes, you have to let an old version of yourself fade into the shadows so something new can rise.
And that feels like a fitting moment to introduce our fall offerings.

I just led a āGirl and Grown-Up Puberty Powerā workshop last weekend and got this review hot off the press:
āI really enjoyed attending the Puberty Power Workshop with other mom friends and their kids. As an educator, Konika is very organized and understands kidsā attention spans, so we covered a lot: interactive games, how weāre feeling about the transition, making bath bombs from scratch, and answering questions in a curiosity box.ā
āI appreciated her positive āattitude of gratitudeā approach that was science-based and also celebratory. As a result, our kids left feeling more comfortable and confident talking about and being ready for any changes to come. Highly recommend!ā
What if your daughter could spend an hour each week celebrating an inspiring woman in science, eating a nutritious snack, and getting her hands messy with a fun experiment?

Each week, weāll "meet" a different STEMinista, from Eugenie Clark to Marie Tharp, learn about her story and discoveries, and then roll up our sleeves for a hands-on science experiment inspired by her work.

Happy Blue Micromoon, Summer is almost here, and this can be the perfect time to fit in those important conversations that help your daughter feel safe, informed, and supported. We still have plenty of space in our upcoming āMedia Mindset: Healthy Digital Habitsā workshop on June 6. If your daughter would benefit from a small group, supportive, discussion-based environment, this is a wonderful opportunity. Registration also includes access to my most popular parent workshop, āParenting in the...
Happy New Moon, The most common questions I get from parents are: āWhen should I talk to my daughter about puberty?ā and āWhen should I talk to her about the birds and the bees?ā Iām seeing more and more second and third graders at our workshops, which makes sense because the average age for the onset of puberty in girls is 8, and some girls begin as early as age 6. Iāve been a puberty educator for two decades, and in the past, parents often asked if third grade was too young. These days, I...
Happy New Moon, My inbox has been full this week with so many amazing moms asking for workshops before everyone heads off on summer adventures. I hear you.
