I’m 51 Today, And No One Prepared Me for This

I’m 51 today.

For over two decades, I’ve taught kids about puberty. Whenever we talk about periods, they always ask:

“When does it end?”

I tell them the average age of menopause is 51.

That number used to feel so far away. And now… here it is.

My period hasn’t stopped.
But perimenopause has absolutely begun.

Like so many people, I’ve struggled to get real guidance. I’ve seen more than ten doctors. I’ve spent thousands of dollars. I’ve paid $350 out of pocket for appointments that finally made sense — while 15-minute covered visits left me confused or misinformed.

When I said my cycles were irregular, I was told I needed testing for endometrial cancer.
When I asked for clarification about my HRT dosage, I was warned about breast cancer risk in a way that didn’t reflect current evidence.

And then I learned something that explained a lot:

Over 80% of OB/GYNs report receiving little to no formal training in menopause care.

No wonder so many of us are left asking:

  • Is this normal?
  • When does this start?
  • What actually helps?
  • How do I advocate for myself?

That’s why I created Perimenopause Power.

This is an evidence-based, science-forward workshop designed to bring clarity to the confusion — without hype, fear, or “just power through it” messaging.

Here’s what you’ll walk away with:

✔ A clear understanding of ages, stages, and common signs of perimenopause
✔ What actually supports hormonal shifts (and what’s mostly marketing)
✔ A grounded, accurate overview of HRT — what it is, when it’s considered, and how to talk to your doctor
✔ Language and documentation strategies to advocate for yourself
✔ The 10 Superpowers of Perimenopause (a participant favorite)
✔ 5 concrete ways partners and loved ones can be allies
✔ Live Q&A so you can get your specific questions answered

I also share my personal case study — the exact symptoms I tracked, how I documented them, and how I navigated conflicting medical advice.

This isn’t about “fixing” yourself.
It’s about body literacy, agency, and support.

And it shouldn’t cost hundreds of dollars to get trustworthy information.

If you’ve been meaning to understand what’s happening in your body — this is your moment.

Happy New Moon, My inbox has been full this week with so many amazing moms asking for workshops before everyone heads off on summer adventures. I hear you. This time of year is a big transition for our daughters (and for us), and it’s worth supporting them with the tools they need before everything shifts. I’m offering the four topics moms are requesting the most and a bundle deal (save $50) when you register for both kids workshops. Feel free to email me at here if you have any questions. Go...

Happy Pink Full Moon, Our popular Girl & Grown-Up "Period Power" workshop is back on April 25th as well as our virtual "Pause Power" workshop on April 22nd. There’s something I keep noticing lately, in my students, in my daughter, and honestly… in myself too. Sleep deprivation. Our body literacy classes always begin with a check-in and a chance for students to draw a picture of their "inner weather report" in their journal. One of my students said they noticed a pattern. "I am always tired!"...

Happy Spring Equinox! My daughter turned 15 yesterday. And surprisingly…the hardest part wasn’t the cake, the guest list, or even the emotions. It was her wishlist. Think: itsy bitsy teeny weeny crop tops and micro skirts. The kind of clothes that make you pause as a parent—not because they’re “wrong,” but because they raise bigger questions. Just last week, after my talk at Burkes School (“Girl Power: Building Body Resilience”), a mom asked me: “How do you balance letting girls wear what they...
